11-14 June 2015: Earth Security supported the 4th BMW Foundation Global Table in the Polish village of Luslawice. A unique informal atmosphere where 20 influencers from Russia, China, Europe, Turkey, Central Asia and Saudi Arabia (covering energy companies, former Heads of State, politicians and Ministries of Foreign Affairs, policy-makers and civil society - participant list below), came together to discuss new opportunities for energy security and sustainable investment in Eurasia.
Earth Security was the strategy partner for the meeting, framing outcomes and collaborations and facilitating partnerships. The discussion focused on how sustainable investments in the region can help build trust between these countries. China 'Silk Road' strategy, which connects Asia, Europe and Africa, and the launching of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), both present unprecedented opportunity for sustainable development. To realise this vision, the next decade's energy infrastructures investments and electricity interconnections in the region must prioritise renewable energy.
A range of practical outcomes and collaborations emerging from the meeting, from collaborative newspaper articles to taking next steps among discussions between utilities and scientists around large-scale renewable electricity, will be followed up in the road to the Berlin Global Forum, the final activity of the 2-year cycle of BMW Foundation Global Tables supported by the Earth Security.
